Chinese New Year Eve is a good opportunity to fly to China. If first time there, then Shanghai is a top choice. Just check for visas, no need for vaccines as it is a real western city….but a really polluted one. Look for accommodation in the city center near the people’s square on http://www.booking.com or Airbnb. There are a lot to choose from but remember it is one of the biggest celebration in China, seems like a migration, as workers go back home. I faced it when working with Chinese companies and having strict terms of delivery before New Year.
A tip- absolutely take maglev train from Pudong Airport, for a 500 per hour ride experience. And pack light as you can buy everything to buy, cheaper even than in Europe, except brands.
